MEMORIAL DAY
In this quiet place, I find rest For a mind troubled by the memory of war And of those things that no one Should be forced to remember.
With an aching body, Shattered and sorely afflicted, I approach and turn myself over To your keeping, Lord.
For you are my strength and my comfort. You are serenity in the midst of conflict, The cool silence of faith in the heat of battle And the foundation upon which My weary feet find purchase.
I pray that those who come after me Will remember our sacrifice, Will learn and understand That which we have endured for their sake And rejoice in our triumph.
That is all that I ask, Lord, This simple request. I have lost much and my Brothers and sisters have given their lives For that which they believed was right.
Can you not spare a day in which to remember us?

Wonderful post Ann and a true gift as a reminder to us all. Beautifully inspiring and moving, and a much needed reflection for everyone, especially in today's day in age. Thank you for sharing this piece of eloquence!

A beautiful write. Prayerful. Introspecive. Deep expression of emotion. Good flow and tone. Good word choice, alliteration and nice assonance. Nice metaphor. Your faith shines in this piece. Very good closing lines. Well penned.
